A couple of weeks ago our Little Kickers U7s squad set off on their odyssey of youth football. It was a special Saturday as instead of training at their usual Newick training ground they headed to Chailey sports ground to play their first ever ‘proper’ match.
As they reach the end of their Little Kickers journey we help to prepare the U7s (next season’s U8s) for what lies ahead. In September they will start their adventure in the Mid Sussex Youth Football League, playing matches most Sundays across the season.
By playing a match now hopefully they will feel comfortable (and excited) for the league matches. Every year our current U8s happily step in to help by becoming the U7s’ opponents in the end of season Colts vs Colts match!
It was a fantastic Saturday morning as the two Colts teams went head to head and battled it out at Chailey, while parents cheered and supported from behind the respect barrier. It’s a great experience for the parents too as they get to see how match day runs and learn the all-important respect rules.
Led by Colts Chairman and Little Kickers coach, Steve Allan, and helped by our U8s coaches Adil and Dan, the morning was a huge success and lots of fun was had by all. No one is too sure what the final score was as lots of goals were scored by both teams and the score is wasn't the important part of the experience.
Steve said: “It was a brilliant morning at the common as the U7s and U8s played out the practice match. Some great goals, crunching tackles and some genuinely sweet, comedy moments!! Huge thanks to Adil and Dan for their effort in getting everything sorted, and for developing a great bunch of kids.”
Well done Colts! We can’t wait to watch you play more matches next season.
