And we’re off! The new season has begun and we go again for another year. After a lovely summer break it was great to be back at Chailey with several home games being played this morning.
Despite the frequent but intermittent downpours everyone seemed in good spirits. The kids all ignored the rain and gave it their all, with some great results all round - both home and away.
More importantly than the scores, our players displayed great sportsmanship and fair play all round. They were happy to be playing and looking forward to the season ahead. Let’s hope the rain holds off for a while and our pitches stay in the perfect condition they were in today!
Thanks to our committee and all our volunteers for looking after the pitches during the summer break to make sure they are tip top for the new season. A lot of work goes in behind the scenes, not just on the pitches but on the admin side of things as well.
Without the hard work behind the scenes the club could not exist. While we all enjoyed some down time during the summer (alongside tournaments and continued training!), we also worked hard to make sure all our safeguarding policies are in place, all qualifications and checks are up to date, all our players are registered on time, teams entered into the correct leagues, fixtures arranged and loads more.
Every member of the club committee gives up their time on a weekly basis and we continue to meet every month to keep things running smoothly. Without volunteers we would not exist so a huge thank you to all our managers and everyone else involved - let’s hope we have a fantastic season to celebrate all the hard work.
We also welcome several new committee members and a new Chair to spearhead the club as we go forwards. Thank you to Rob Suttling for stepping into the role of Chair. Rob has been involved with the club in the capacity as a parent and a coach for several years and we know he has the skills and motivation to keep the momentum of the club going and uphold the values we hold dear … watch this space for more info about Rob soon!
Welcome also to our two new managers - Jake and Lewis - who will coach the new U8s team, and welcome to our new welfare office, Freya Gilani-Tolhurst. If you ever have any concerns about the welfare or wellbeing of any players please feel free to reach out to Freya at chaileyandnewickcoltswelfare@gmail.com.
