County Champions!

Colts U14s claim victory in the Sussex C P Mason Cup

Our U14s were crowned County Champions last weekend when they stomped to victory in the final of Sussex FA County Cup!

This is the first time in our club history that any side has ever lifted this trophy. Even making it to the final of this prestigious tournament was a huge achievement for a small volunteer-run village club like ours but to win the cup is momentous.

We could not be more proud of the team, the coaches and everyone involved. And what an amazing occasion the final was.

Chailey and Newick Colts supporters came out in force to support the U14s at Culver Road, the Sussex County FA ground in Lancing.

With a sea of claret and blue in the stadium the U14s battled hard to secure the 2-1 victory over a top AS Eastbourne side.

The Colts started strong and a goal from Max Hammond in the eighth minute put them in the lead early on. Despite a strong display of skill from the All Stars, the Colts were buoyed by their goal and ramped up the pressure.

There was some brilliant play from both sides and Eastbourne remained a threat throughout the match but the Colts came out after half time and quickly scored again. They were awarded a penalty and Archie Draper made no mistake from the spot, placing the ball beautifully in the top right-hand corner.

A second-half goal for the All Stars gave them hope and they continued to press the Colts but just couldn’t find the second goal to force the game to penalties. The opposition had several shots on goal but the Colts defended brilliantly and held their 2-1 lead until the final whistle.

U14s manager, Neil Smith, said of his team’s performance:

“We definitely had the best of the first-half, but the All Stars played well second-half.

“I think the boys deserved it, they battled so hard throughout. They worked hard and played some nice football. I’m just thrilled for the boys!”

Neil also commented on the amazing support from the families and the whole Colts community. He believes that the close bond his team has and “the togetherness they have created” contributed to their success.

Neil said: “Yes my boys are talented but my god they are a close knit bunch.”

We might be a small club but together we are most definitely mighty.

The win is utterly deserved for all the hard work put in by players and coaches alike. It is history in the making … well done boys, we’re all thrilled for you! 💪🏆
