We’re nearly there … The end is in sight! Not that we don’t love playing football but it has felt like a long, hard season with a lot of challenges. One of the biggest has been the weather.
All the rain that fell caused havoc with our pitches and made them unplayable for a large chunk of the season. This left us with a backlog of matches for some teams. Including the U14s, who have had to play several mid-week matches to play catch up.
Last week we had the challenge of getting three 11-a-side matches played on one 11-a-side pitch at home at Chailey on Wednesday evening. A logistical nightmare without floodlights as it’s not possible to fit in three matches after school/ work before losing the light.
So, we put out an SOS to the local footballing community and neighbouring club Plumpton FC saved the day. We would like to say a huge thank you to Plumpton for the use of their 11-a-side pitch and for offering to help without hesitation. We are truly grateful and will always return the favour if ever needed.
It turned out to be a great evening for the U14s as they secured a resounding victory after an absolutely superb performance all round. This was followed by a draw at their second match of the week on Sunday.
The U13s also secured two wins in a doubleheader at home on Wednesday and the U12s had another fantastic week with loads of football played and two more wins under their belts.
It’s now the last push to the end of season and everyone can take a well-earned break before the summer tournaments start! We are also really looking forward to our End of Season awards on Friday 17 May 🏆
